Programs

Friends of Straub Environmental Learning Center (FSELC) is a non-profit organization dedicated to environmental education. We aim to increase knowledge and encourage environmentally friendly and ecologically responsible lifestyles that will protect and sustain the Mid-Willamette Valley’s natural resources for all generations. During 2012, FSELC partnered with nearly 80 volunteers and 30 public/private agencies to provide educational programs to 2,500 community members from around the Mid-Willamette Valley.

Currently, FSELC’s adult classes include:

  • Amateur Naturalist Series
  • Annual Mushroom Retreat
  • Ecological Sense of Place
  • Native Plant Landscape Restoration Site
  • Sand County Almanac
  • FSELC Environmental Lecture Series
  • Nature Hikes

Youth & family curriculum and activities are:

  • Family Nature Retreat
  • Family Nature Night
  • Nature Kids Youth Naturalist Series
  • Summer Camp

For detailed information or schedules on any of the above programs, follow the specific link under the “program” tab of the website.

FSELC is also a co-organizers of the Annual Mid-Valley Green Awards — a popular annual dinner gala for the general public that recognizes individuals and businesses in the Mid-Willamette Valley making strides to live more lightly on the Earth. Silent and live auctions at the Green Awards support FSELC’s operating budget. The event itself is a collaborative undertaking of FSELC and Marion County Environmental Services — both recognized environmental leaders in the Valley. We are entering our 4th year for the Green Awards, and we’re so proud to be involved.
